Ship to Ship LNG Transfer

Project details

  • Project Name : Ship to Ship LNG Transfer
  • Start Date: April 2019
  • End Date: Ongoing

Project description

LNG as an alternative fuel for Shipping has been increasingly adopted as a strategy for environmental compliance, either sailing or at port. With an immediate significant impact on the reduction of Sulphur Oxides emissions (SOx), Particulate Matter (PM), and also of Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) the motivations for the use of LNG as fuel in maritime transport are today highly favoured by a relevant multi-layered regulatory frame.

Sofregaz is currently working on a study covering LNG transfer system available on the market for the transfer of LNG in ship to ship configuration for bunkering operation and to specify the system that shall be used for ship to ship operation in line with safety & HSE principles.

The aim of the study is then to perform a mapping of the different market products with their technical characteristics and to elaborate a table highlighting their limit conditions (materials, weathers conditions limits, relative motions, temperature, pressure, etc) as well as, maturity of the design, HSE, SIL certification, class society certification or industry standards certification are to be assessed.

This study will allow our client to identify the best solution in their development for bunkering from 200m3/h to 2000m3/h using flexibles, rigid arms or even jetty less platform in some specific configuration from ship to shore.
