Manzanillo LNG Terminal

Sofregaz Supports LNG Growth in Dominican Republic
- Project Name: Manzanillo LNG Terminal FEED
- Country: Dominican Republic
- Project Site Location:Manzanillo Bay
- Name of Client: IMI (for ENERGIA 2000)
- Project Type: FEED Design
- Completion Date: 2024
The Manzanillo LNG to Power project is strategically located in the Manzanillo Bay area, a key site for the Dominican Republic’s energy infrastructure. The project’s primary goal is to provide natural gas to a 435 MW power block, ensuring a stable and efficient power supply for the region.
The terminal is designed for future expansions, which will increase its capacity to support additional power blocks, further reinforcing the country’s energy resilience.
The LNG terminal will consist of:
- Offshore import facilities to receive liquefied natural gas,
- Onshore LNG storage tanks designed for long-term storage and operational reliability,
- Regasification units to convert LNG back into natural gas for power generation.
Sofregaz has been entrusted with the FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) of the project, a critical phase that lays the groundwork for the terminal’s development. Our engineering team is focused on designing the facilities to ensure:
- Reliable LNG delivery for continuous power plant operation,
- Minimized environmental impacts through the use of advanced technology for emissions control and energy efficiency,
- Adherence to international safety standards, ensuring that all aspects of the project meet the highest levels of operational safety.
The terminal’s offshore import facilities are designed to accommodate large LNG carriers, ensuring a continuous supply of natural gas. Once imported, the LNG will be stored in state-of-the-art onshore storage tanks and regasified for distribution to the power block. This regasification process, meticulously designed by Sofregaz, guarantees a smooth transition from LNG to natural gas while maintaining optimal safety and efficiency.
Power Block Integration
435 MW power block, powered by natural gas, is the central feature of this project. Sofregaz’s engineering expertise ensures that the integration of the LNG terminal with the power block is seamless, providing a steady, reliable source of energy to meet the growing demands of the Dominican Republic.
Environmental Considerations
Environmental sustainability is a priority for the Manzanillo LNG Terminal. The design incorporates modern technology to reduce carbon emissions and enhance energy efficiency.
Sofregaz is committed to ensuring that the terminal operates in full compliance with local and international environmental regulations, reducing its ecological footprint.
