- Completion Date: 2009
The Kharg Island NGL Project, located in Iran, is a major energy initiative focused on the development of two parallel NGL recovery trains and gas treatment plants. This project gathers natural gas from both onshore and offshore sources, including the Aboozar, Dorood, and Foroozan oil fields. The facilities are designed to process and recover natural gas liquids (NGLs), with infrastructure supporting gas compression, liquid storage, and export.
The project includes common utilities, large-scale storage tanks, and the construction of a new jetty to support the export of liquid products, ensuring that the facilities can meet growing energy demands while contributing to Iran’s export capacity.
Sofregaz was responsible for the FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) endorsement and update of key project packages, ensuring the project meets international standards and operational efficiency goals. Our specific contributions include:
- Gas compression units design to ensure efficient transportation of gas from both onshore and offshore fields,
- Pipelines and flow assurance studies to optimize gas and liquid transport,
- NGL recovery units design, ensuring the extraction and processing of valuable liquids,
- Storage and export facilities, including the design of storage tanks and a new jetty for liquid product export.
The project includes two parallel NGL recovery trains, designed to process natural gas and extract valuable liquids, such as ethane, propane, butane, and condensate. These trains are equipped with advanced cryogenic technologies to ensure maximum recovery efficiency while adhering to environmental and safety standards.
Onshore and Offshore Gas Gathering The gas for the Kharg Island NGL Project is gathered from both onshore facilities and offshore platforms, including the Aboozar, Dorood, and Foroozan fields. Sofregaz has designed the gas compression systems and pipelines that transport the gas to the NGL processing facility, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of gas from these distant sources.
Storage and Export Infrastructure
The project includes extensive storage capabilities, with cryogenic storage tanks designed to hold processed NGLs. The development also features a new jetty for the export of liquid products such as propane, butane, and condensate, positioning Kharg Island as a major export hub for these valuable energy products.
