FSRU Benin

Sofregaz Developing Conceptual LNG Solutions for Benin
- Project Name: Benin LNG Regasification Terminal Pre-FEED
- Country: Bénin
- Project Site Location: Cotonou
- Name of Client: TOTAL GAS RENEWABLES & POWER (GRP)
- Project Type: Pre-FEED
- Completion Date: 2019
In collaboration with PRINCIPIA, Sofregaz has been commissioned by TOTAL Gas Renewables & Power to develop the conceptual design for the Benin LNG Regasification Terminal. This project aims to strengthen Benin’s energy infrastructure by identifying and assessing three potential solutions for connecting a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) to the country’s existing facilities. The FSRU will play a crucial role in increasing Benin’s natural gas supply, supporting its economic and industrial growth.
As a leader in LNG terminal design, Sofregaz is responsible for conducting a pre-FEED study that will focus on reducing technical uncertainties and outlining the optimal solution for the project’s next stages. The study will:
- Explore three potential FSRU connection schemes to Benin’s existing infrastructure,
- Develop conceptual designs that prioritize cost efficiency, technical feasibility, and environmental sustainability,
- Provide a detailed technical roadmap to support future development and guide the project through its FEED and EPC phases.
The FSRU will be the primary facility for storing and regasifying liquefied natural gas (LNG), offering a flexible and cost-effective solution to expand Benin’s gas supply. Sofregaz will assess the feasibility of connecting the FSRU to existing pipelines and infrastructure, ensuring the seamless distribution of regasified LNG across the country.
Boosting Benin’s Gas Supply
The project is designed to meet Benin’s growing energy demands by boosting its natural gas supply. The FSRU-based solution will provide the country with a reliable and scalable energy source, supporting its industrial growth and enhancing its energy security.
Minimizing Technical Uncertainties
The pre-FEED study led by Sofregaz is focused on identifying and resolving potential technical challenges. By addressing these uncertainties early, the project is positioned for smoother execution during the FEED and construction phases, ensuring that the FSRU connection is optimized for long-term performance.
